Wild Turkey

Turkey hunting has been in my family for generations. my Great Uncle John has taken my great grandmother, grandmother, my mother, and now me allowing the tradition to stay alive with much more meaning. Its always a fun time, especially learning how to use my own call to draw in such a magnificent bird. My first successful wild turkey hunt was actually in the fall of 2015, when I harvested a Jake. It was the exciting moment when we located my turkey by creating a shock gobble (with my uncles unique Owl sounds). Turkey calling is vital to luring in gobblers during the fall and spring hunts. I utilize most of the Wild Turkey and use his bones to create a custom Wing Bone Call. The smaller bones to create a hen cluck and the larger ones for a mature gobbler cluck.

When turkey hunting I personally prefer using decoys. It is to ensure if turkeys are present in the area they are easily lured by the calls. My uncle and I use two hen decoys and a Jake decoy that we recently just bought new ones at a garage sale for $2 apiece (Our old ones were ate up by field mice). Calling in a turkey that's coming in quickly is so exciting sometimes hunters forget the birds have a very quick reaction to any movement. So it is important to have full coverage camouflage and reduce any unnecessary movement, due to their impeccable eyesight. So even though their brain is the size of a small peanut, take extra care because, they sure will spot you in a heartbeat.
